A Simple Guide to Getting It Right
When it comes to choosing new wheels, it’s easy to focus purely on how they look. While style is important, correct wheel fitment is just as crucial, and often more important when it comes to safety, performance, and long-term reliability.
Key Elements:
There are a few key elements to understand when looking at wheel fitment. The first is the bolt pattern (PCD), which refers to the number of wheel studs and the distance between them. This must match your vehicle exactly, as even small differences will prevent the wheel from fitting properly or safely.
The second factor is offset (ET). Offset determines how far in or out the wheel sits relative to the hub. A lower offset pushes the wheel outward, giving a wider stance, while a higher offset pulls it inward. Choosing the wrong offset can result in rubbing, poor handling, or uneven tyre wear over time.
Finally, wheel size and clearance need to be considered. It’s not just about diameter… width, brake clearance, and suspension space all play a role in ensuring a proper fit.
